Our History

Children's Horizons Preschool was founded by Audrey Davidson in 1987 in Stow, Massachusetts. A second site was added in 1989 at the First Parish Church on Main Street in Bolton. Both locations have grown into well-established community preschools and continue to serve families from Stow, Bolton, and the surrounding communities.

Philosophy

boy playing at sand table with different objectsChildren's Horizons' primary goal is to provide a developmentally stimulating and caring environment for all children. We realize each child is an individual with his/her own interests, skills and values. We assist children in developing their interests and by recognizing their personal learning styles. We coordinate our programs with the area schools in preparation for future learning. We offer a program that enables children to learn as they play. We promote both child-initiated and teacher-directed activities to cultivate imagination and creativity. We believe the process of a child's work is always more important than the finished product. We help foster a love of learning and encourage students through developmentally appropriate activities and lessons.

We incorporate all areas of child development in our curriculum through English language arts, math, science and technology/engineering, history, social science, the arts and health education. We offer individual, small group and large group activities.

Communication and Parent Involvement

Children's Horizons has an OPEN DOOR policy and encourages parents to visit the school and their child's classroom while their child is present. We encourage parent helpers on field trips and in the classroom for special holiday parties. Parents who want to share a special talent or who do special work in the community are encouraged to participate.

Continuous communication between parent and teacher is very important to us. In addition to a written progress report of the child's participation in our program and a formal parent-teacher conference, we encourage daily communication at arrival time or at the end of the school day.

Each teacher provides a monthly newsletter describing upcoming events (holidays, field trips, etc.), lesson plans and themes, and reminders and notifications.
